Educational situation in the modern world

It is well known fact, that humanist professions are very popular nowadays. Since childhood a lot of young people suppose this speciality to be very attractive. With such an impression they are brought up in their families, go to school, to a university and after all they begin rearing their own children that way. Deadlock.
Why is it so? What do make people think that technological sciences have lost their importance?
There are several causes.
First of all modern engineering reached such a high degree of growth that society is capable of operating it without having specialized technical education. thereby there is no need for subsequent spreading of engineering knowledge. Humanits application starts prevailing in all fields of life.
Secondly it is an actual fact that we live in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They want to explain everything and use things, but not to make something by themselves. Of course this phenomenon does not affect positively on dissemination of engineering knowledge. People are simply not interested in it.
Thirdly the resource base has achieved such a extent of devastation that we often have no place for work after learning the theory.
Finally a very significant thing is the policy of the government. What professions does it consider as needed nowadays? We can easily find out it by researching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what professions do they popularize now? It is easy to prove that they are full of non-technical images. Mass-media display us pleasant, nice way of life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a result?
Lack of expert workers in the technical sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a jointer planer. This will cause a perilous situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable way of living.
Besides that our education system is totally ruined. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no qualified teachers able to train worthy personnel working in technical spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our country do in order to improve the state? I think that there are several actions to be taken. First of all our education system should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs perspectives. Then our country should apply efforts in order to popularize technical specialities in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to save engineering professions is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
