Rationing the Blame: Is it users of SEO software or is it Search Engines?
I confess. Prior to learning about SEO programs and site promotion field, I thought Google was perfect. I Googled everything from friends, to photography, to current events to obscure things and unquestionably trusted the findings. Then I heard about SEO products and a whole industry revolving around site promotion, and my search habits changed. But even before my revelation, after doing some introspective reading, I got a hunch that search engines, Google to boot, know far from everything, and divulge to the users a tiny portion of that.
My Google escapades soon persuaded me that Flikr is a more comprehensive image search source, that with the assistance of feeds I can access great news coverage without having to rummage through Google search results (rummaging seems more fitting than Google search), and people search is best managed by Facebook. It seems that whenever I search for odd gadgets on Google, the results are almost always messy, to put it mildly. Try Googling for SEO programs and other SEO connected subjects on Google and you are almost ready to lose your sanity. I mean, seriously, what’s the relationship between SEO programs and employment webpages or Internet casinos? It happens in my distress.
So when news of link building software and the whole industry built around it entered my modest worldview, my doubts about webpages coming up on P1 of Google increased virally. Do they deserve to show up on there and whose fault is it, Google or site promoters using SEO apps. The ethical quandary is huge. Do I seize using my SEO google ranking or do I seize using Google instead? I decided that I can’t boycott Google just yet. At least not until the worthy rival enters the picture. For now I will keep juggling between Blekko, Google and the above methods to complement the SERP mess that Google is. And, oh,yes, I will continue using my SEO tools.
To be honest, SEO programs is the reason why folks like myself get discovered on the net. smart as they are, Google search algos are not likely to find some random dude and rank his website highly. In this regard, I still am a strong advocate of SEO tools and organic search. If it was all about the cash, the multinational entities would demolish me before I knew it. And there are 1000 powerbrands on the Fortune roll! But here is something else that irritates me and other backlink check users, I am sure. There are individuals who purchase SEO software products and use them to sell shoeson casino sites and such. What we have is junk that not only lives on the Internet but is also well ranked by Google.
What is the public perspective on this? People search for SEO program reviews and will instead find unrelated content. They get disillusioned. So much for the “Internet equality”. Does this mean that SEO application and service field is bad? I don’t think so.
The abusers of SEO apps have to stop bastardizing the Web but it’s like asking hackers to stop cracking the code. The bad side about it is that black hat SEOs are abusing the opportunity to be noticeable on the Net that is given to the no-name guy like myself. For now we just have to tolerate them. One can only wish that Google will put more effort into spotting the schemers unethically using SEO programs, and if Google doesn’t, the future search engine will.
